Since September 27, 2026, the EU’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (EmpCo) has changed the rules for environmental claims. Vague terms like “eco-friendly” or “green” are no longer allowed unless you can show recognized excellent environmental performance, and product-level “climate neutral” claims based on offsetting are banned. Claims about future performance, such as net-zero targets, now need a detailed public plan and independent checks.
Many companies are responding by saying less. But staying silent about real progress carries its own risk: customers, investors and employees can’t reward work they never hear about.
In 45 minutes plus live Q&A, Position Green’s Anna Norrman and Alexander Morden plus Erik Lindroth, Sustainability Director at Duni Group, will walk you through what the directive means in practice and how to keep talking about your sustainability work with confidence, backed by your data.
You’ll leave with:
- A clear run-through of EmpCo: what’s banned, what’s still allowed and what has changed since September 27
- Why the directive matters for you, including how it connects to the targets and results in your reporting
- How to avoid both greenwashing and greenhushing
- How to act on data: link every claim to numbers you can show
- Answers to your own questions on green claims
Who it’s for: Sustainability and ESG leads, and the marketing, communications and legal colleagues who sign off on environmental claims.
